Introduction
This web based resource
offers an evaluative composition of the socio-cultural factors that
influence gendered attainment levels in education. A case study has been
conducted in a secondary school within the District of Rother, East Sussex.
Statistical analysis of national and local data will provide a comparative
evaluation of contextual features regarding the ‘underachievement of boys’ in
state education (Fogg, 2012). This will provide an understanding of local
trends in relation to national trends. Reference will be made to various
theoretical frameworks, such as Howard Becker’s theory of labelling and
moral panic in line with the aforementioned issue. A summary of identified key
features of socio-cultural context within education will be offered,
highlighting the importance of contextualising issues within education.
